Winter is on the Way

Winter is on the way bringing with it joy, happiness and frozen pipes. While all of us look forward to joy and happiness not many of us are looking forward to a frozen pipe that could leave us with devastating water damage and costly repairs.
A quarter of a million families experience cracks on pipes from the cold weather each winter. A crack in a pipe only 1/8-inch can expel up to 250 gallons of water a day, causing flooding, serious structural damage and the immediate potential for mold.
Homes with plastic and copper pipes are both susceptible to the cold temperature and pipes that freeze most frequently are:
- Pipes exposed to severe cold, like outdoor hose bibs, swimming pool supply lines and water sprinkler lines.
- Water supply pipes in unheated interior areas like basements and crawl spaces, attics, garages, or kitchen cabinets.
- Pipes that run against exterior walls that have little or no insulation.
